Here's an interesting gig I was asked to do for Black History Month. A Victoria high school student reached out to me a few weeks ago for a part education/ part concert event.
“Reynolds Community Leadership and the Minority Empowerment Club have teamed up to bring you a Black History Month Concert on Feb. 27th! From 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the school gym you’ll be hearing afrobeats and hip-hop, two music genres with roots in black culture!
Our first performer is Poncho, a ghanaian-canadian artist based out of Victoria! Being brought up in Ghana taught him that his music was different from his peers. So, he brought the afrobeats wave (a fusion of hip hop, dancehall and other genre) to Canada! He is now a full time artist!!
Our second performer is Alpha Centauri, a hip-hop Artist based out of Nanaimo! Originally from Zimbabwe but now living in Canada, Alpha is an up and coming MC who’s songs are a genre-bending powerhouse with instantly memorable sing-along choruses!
This event is open to all Reynolds students and their families! Tickets are 10$ per person and will be on sale next week on Monday at lunch! Guest tickets are also available starting Wednesday the 19th and must be in by the 21st. “
