ALPHA CENTAURI is an emerging international hip-hop artist seamlessly fusing elements of funk, R&B, Afrobeat, and indie rock into a sound entirely his own. In an era of pre-packaged acts, he remains a rare, unfiltered voice. Driven by an uncompromising "grind-first" work ethic, ALPHA CENTAURI honors the foundations of classic hip-hop while injecting a sharp, contemporary edge that defies easy categorization.
ALPHA CENTAURI‘s music echoes socially conscious themes of perseverance, ambition, and triumph—delivered with unforgettable hooks by a natural-born showman.
Educated and licensed as a lawyer in Zimbabwe, ALPHA quickly realized the traditional corporate path stifled his true calling. He changed gears, boarding a plane for Canada with a singular focus: giving his music career the commitment it deserved.
He wasted no time establishing his voice. In 2016, alongside fellow Zimbabwean expat Swisher, he released "Away"—a song chronicling his journey leaving home, produced on a 12-year-old laptop at his apartment kitchen table. The track gained international traction and was recently placed as the theme song for the feature film Evelyne, streaming worldwide on the Roku Channel and elsewhere.
ALPHA soon set his sights on the live circuit, sharing stages with West Coast hip-hop staples including Junk, Emotionz, Moka Only, Illvis Freshly, Mo Moshiri (Sweatshop Union), and Sirreal to refine his craft. This sparked an intense surge of songwriting that carried right through the 2020 covid lockdowns.
His momentum caught the attention of producer Wes Smith and acclaimed mixing engineer Justin Hicks. Between January and October 2022, ALPHA recorded eight tracks backed by a dynamic live band. The first single from those sessions—the Afrobeat-infused "I’ll Fly"—dropped internationally in January 2023 and was followed by remixes from DJs in Argentina, Sri Lanka, and Jamaica.
His follow-up single, "Get Your Money Up," delivered a funked-up anthem about turning dreams into reality:
"There are a lot of people that do nothing more than brag about their goals and dreams, but 80% of it is fabricated," ALPHA explains. "This song is about seriously pursuing your dream—whether it’s music, the arts, a side hustle, education, or a life goal. Nothing happens unless YOU put the effort into it over the long term. There are no cheat codes to success in the real world."
In early 2024, ALPHA returned to the studio with his band and producer Wes Smith to track 10 additional songs, for the album and upcoming singles.
July 2024 saw the release of his third single, "Grow"—an infectious hip-hop/funk record championing collective progress, featuring scratching from Canadian DMC Champion DJ ALLGOOD (Peter Poole) and a standout dual stereo sax solo by Vancouver jazz veteran Dominic Conway.
A 4-song live EP Live Alive ’25 was released in early 2025 to satisfy fans as the remaining songs on his album were being recorded.
That same year, ALPHA collaborated on Jr. Atlas’s debut single "Wasted/Lonely," a breezy rap track pairing sad-boy lyricism with an upbeat groove (Jr. Atlas frequently joins ALPHA onstage as his live co-emcee).
In June 2026, ALPHA released his fourth single, the jazz-tinged motivator "Higher Up":
"The song starts with 'I’m in the kitchen, cutting through all my overtime' because I was literally in my kitchen prepping food when writing it," ALPHA shares. "I was thinking about the lyrics, the personal journey I’ve had to endure to get here, and committing fully to my art. It’s like a well-balanced meal—I needed all the ingredients in there.
It dives into the pressure artists face—family expectations, financial strain, and the internal weight of being a responsible adult while staying dedicated to making music. It’s about prioritizing my needs as an artist over what everyone else told me to do. I want my words to inspire people to work toward their target and ignore the haters. My journey has had plenty of conflict, but I never gave up. I'm still here."
ALPHA CENTAURI’s debut full-length album, The Future Right Now, is scheduled for release on August 28, 2026, preceded by the singles "Never Be" and "We Rise."
The Future Right Now Tracklist:
The album features a wealth of collaborative talent, including saxophonists Brent Mah(Five Alarm Funk) and Dominic Conway, keyboardist Johnny Tobin, and background vocalist Aurah Ariko (Edmonton). Core band members Richard Brown, Cuyler Biller, Owen Owen Owen, Alli Bean, and Max Zipursky feature throughout, alongside guest verses from rappers Ashes 5thborn and Jr. Atlas.
Side Projects & Expanding Horizons
The fall of 2026 introduces two new creative outlets for ALPHA:
Live Performances & The Road Ahead
Performing predominantly with an 8-piece live band, ALPHA CENTAURI has shared stages with hip-hop icons and major touring acts such as Method Man & Redman, Ja Rule, Chali 2na & Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5), The OBGMs, and Tanika Charles. His festival resume includes headline slots and appearances at Canada Day Victoria, Khatsalano Street Party, Calgary Stampede, Pachena Bay Festival, Cumberland Wild, Black History Month Vancouver, and the Black Block Party.
Slated to perform at the 2026 True Rhythm Festival alongside Public Enemy, G-Eazy, Collie Buddz, honestav, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Bedouin Soundclash, and Junk, the appearance has been postponed to 2027 due to regional wildfires.
With pending cross-Canada and UK/European tour dates supporting Grammy-winning US artists on the horizon, ALPHA CENTAURI is maintaining his creative stride—with additional singles, acoustic cuts, and remixes slated across the next 12 months in preparation for his sophomore LP in late 2027.
